Surf and Bike rental and instruction program Director

FULL TIME YEAR, YEAR ROUND MANAGEMENT POSITION

Swell Tofino is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Surf and Bike rental and instruction program director  to join our management team in continuing to deliver outstanding customer service while sharing our passion for the ocean.

JOB ROLE AND EXPECTATIONS 

This is a managerial position responsible to assist in overseeing all operations at Swell Education Ltd. The Program and Service Director will work with other managers to run the company, coordinating staff resources, and overseeing the day to day logistics of Swell’s rental and surf lesson operations. The role includes the following responsibilities:

– Overseeing employee team to assure efficient completion of all daily operations. This includes directing staff on a daily basis to make the most of the staff resources that day.

– Staff scheduling. And reviewing daily schedules to prioritize tasks and find the most staff efficiency in completing tasks.

– Organizing meetings to coordinate long term company actions and goals.

– Overseeing lesson and rental logistics and administration; maximizing effective use of rental gear and lesson availability.

– Overseeing gear and equipment maintenance and organization. Including rental bicycle fleet maintenance.

– Overseeing staff training; coordinating with other managers to make sure all training goals have been met; developing strong instructional techniques with staff, running in house training programs along with head instructors.

– Providing constructive feedback to staff and motivating and maintaining positive morale among staff by highlighting each individual member’s strengths.

– Instructing surfing and paddleboarding as needed.

This position has the autonomy to find creative solutions to any challenges that may arise in the day to day operations of Swell.

The job also includes the ability to perform all the daily tasks for Swell that other staff  will regularly be responsible for including; working outside, taking reservations over  the phone, responding to guest inquiries via email, managing online bookings, driving  company vehicles, setting up gear rentals, cleaning rentals that are returned,  performing first aid if needed, making sure all daily paperwork is complete, gear  maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and maintenance of the shop facilities.

This job does include lifting, moving, and washing gear including bins with wetsuits,  paddleboards, surfboards and bikes.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

This is a two year contact starting Feb 7 2026 to Jan 4 2028. Pay will be $31/hr for 35 to 40 hour work week for 49 weeks of the year (Swell has a seasonal closure for 3 weeks in January). The actual hours worked may fluctuate each week based on the requirements for you to fulfill the role.

Extended health benefits will be provided. The premium paid on employee benefits will be covered 50% by Swell and 50% by the employee. Benefit premium payments will be deducted from pay.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION                                                 

– Bachelor’s Degree with focus on Business administration, Commerce, Sports or Sociology

– ISA Level 2 Surf Instructor Certification

– ILS Water Safety Certification

– Full Drivers license

– Standard First Aid and CPR C (or higher level of 1st aid)

– Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater SUP Instructor certification (for instructing paddlboarding)

– Criminal record check

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

3+ years in surf specific coaching

2 + years of Leadership & Staff Management experience

Operations & Logistics Coordination

Administrative & Office Systems Management

IT Proficiency
