Congratulations Sanoa Dempfle-Olin!!

March 5th, 2024

Tofino’s surfing phenom Sanoa Dempfle-Olin has officially qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics!! Sanoa is the first-ever Canadian surfer to earn a spot on Canada’s Olympic Team since the sport made its debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The surfing events for Paris 2024 will take place over four days in a nine days window, from July 27 to August 4, at Teahupo’o, the legendary surf spot in Tahiti, French Polynesia. A total of 48 surfers (24 male and 24 female) will compete in the shortboard event at the Olympics.

Sanoa, who was born and raised in Tofino, grew up surfing the local beaches with her older sister Mathea (who is no stranger to the podium). After shredding her way to a silver medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in Pichilemu, Chile, Sanoa secured her spot on the Olympic roster for 2024. Her standout performance at the recent ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico from Feb. 23 to March 3, solidified her Olympic jersey for Team Canada: Sanoa scored the highest heat total (17.70) and the highest single wave total (9.17) of any surfer throughout the course of the ISA World Surfing Games. Beating out top professionals from all over the world – Woowza!!!

Huge congrats to Sanoa for making history for Surfing Canada. We will be watching and cheering for you!
