Rent or lesson? What’s best for you?

If you’ve never surfed before then taking a lesson with one of our fabulous Swell instructors is for you! 

In the lesson, you will learn:

  • How to be safe in the water
  • How to manage your equipment, ie: getting your surfboard off your car and to the beach, putting your wetsuit on and taking off, and how the leash works  
  • How to catch waves and get to your feet
  • How to fall off safely
  • How to do all of the above yourself in a fun and safe environment

Booking a lesson will also:

  • Provide you with all the equipment needed and transport it to the beach for you
  • Give you a safe space to develop your confidence in the water and waves
  • Be guided by our trained instructors who are all ocean rescue qualified
  • Let you share the experience with your friends and family

Renting a board and wetsuit can be the option if you have surfed or taken a lesson before. Past surf experience definitely makes it easier to work with our team when it comes to picking the right surfboard and the right location for your ability. When you rent from us, we will always give you as much information as we can about our equipment and forecast.

If you haven’t surfed in a while then taking a refresher lesson is a great plan. Our experienced instructors will build upon what you already know so you can advance your surf skills. We can also accommodate kids and non swimmers in our lessons — just give us a call (250.725.0337) to learn more. Oh and one more thing! Anyone that takes a Swell Tofino surf lesson gets a 10% discount off gear rentals for the rest of your trip.
