Swell Tofino is hiring, we are currently looking for the following positions:

Surf/SUP Instructor and Rental Shop Attendant (Staff accommodation available)
$19/hour full time for first time instructors. Comes with staff accommodation in Tofino.
$20/hour for surf instructors with one year experience. Comes with staff accommodation in Tofino.
** $1/hour bonus will be paid upon completion of the contract.
Swell Paddle + Surf is all about inspiring people to build connections with the ocean and others through getting on the water and outside together. As a surf and paddle school, we run surf lessons, SUP surf lessons, paddle tours, and first aid courses out of two locations: Mackenzie Beach Resort & Hotel Zed. We also offer surf, SUP, and bike rentals. We are looking for organized, enthusiastic compassionate leaders to join our team both on the water and in the shop. The Surf & Paddle Board Instructor and Shop Attendant will be responsible for preparing for and delivering lessons, delivering excellent experiences to guests, providing rental equipment and working together as a team to clean gear after lessons and rental returns.
Additional Job Duties:
Instruct recreational surf and paddleboard lessons and enforce safety rules, providing assistance and first aid when required. Assemble surf, paddle and bike equipment, ensuring they are excellent condition. Maintain, repair, and keep equipment in professional working order including surfing equipment, paddling equipment, bikes, safety equipment, and first aid supplies. Keep logs of weather conditions and equipment maintenance, maintain records of guests paperwork and prepare reports for inventory maintenance. Attend to projects and needs of the company related to any retail or maintenance.
Required Experience & Skills:
Demonstrate the ability to surf and paddleboard at an instructional level, including safety and weather forecasting.
Outdoor Instructional Experience – Water based is an asset.

Knowledge and ability to lead outdoor activities pertaining to a wide range of age groups.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to deal with people in a professional manner.

Clear and friendly communication skills and professional demeanour, over email, phone, and in-person with both co-workers and customers.

First Aid and CPR-C Lifesaving certificate
Bronze Cross (or higher level of lifesaving)
Valid driver’s license
Ideal Candidate will also:
Paddle Canada SUP Instructor Certification
ISA lvl 1 certificate for surf instruction
Have experience with social media

Skills and/or training should exhibit:

Teaching, Coaching and/or Instruction skills
Surfing or paddleboarding experience (2 or more years of personal experience)
Required Certifications:
First Aid and CPR-C
